Kinetic Chain Release (KCR) is a treatment protocol founded and developed by Scottish physiotherapist, Hugh Gilbert. Hugh is a globally recognised leader in the field of physical rehabilitation and has developed this simple but effective system of medically recognised and approved mobilisations and stretches, which brings the body quickly and easily back into balance. It is gentle, non-invasive and safe for all ages.

Everyone can benefit from a KCR treatment. By following the protocol, problems such as weak ankles, knee problems, hip and joint pain, pelvic discomforts, back, shoulder and neck pain, TMJ and headaches can be alleviated. Energy levels will also increase when the body is in balance.

The KCR treatment is performed with the client fully clothed on a treatment table and also seated.  Comfortable clothing should be worn which allows for full range of movement. KCR is carried out in my treatment studio adjacent to my home in Colinton. KCR begins with checking for a leg length discrepancy (LLD), then I work through the series of mobilisations and stretches to bring the body back into a healthier, more balanced state. Despite the fact that a leg length difference can exist without any perceivable pain, over time this imbalance can cause the body to overcompensate and lead to a wide range of common complaints and physical conditions. KCR is extremely versatile, simple and effective in treating a wide range of disorders.

Some of the conditions helped and often eliminated by KCR are:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Chronic knee, back and neck pain
  • Sprained or weak ankles
  • Migraine headaches
  • Scoliosis
  • Teeth clenching
  • Tight calves
  • Tired shoulders
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Chronic stress
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Chronic groin or hamstring strains
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pelvic problems
  • Tennis elbow
  • TMJ dysfunction
  • Snoring/ sleep apnoea
  • Insomnia
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

KCR frequently provides a high degree of relief and even instant resolution, in many cases, from the pain and discomfort caused from the above named conditions.  In some cases it can take up to 7 days to see an improvement as the body responds to the realignment.

KCR can increase performance in athletes and when performed on children, their bodies can develop in a balanced and healthy way.  For children's treatments, a parent must be present.

A KCR treatment costs £40 for adults and lasts approximately one hour.  Children's appointments (under 16s) are approximately 45 minutes long and cost £30, as children release much quicker, it takes less time to deliver the protocol.

Here is some feedback from my KCR clients:

"I am so happy that my shoulder is back to normal and amazed that I'm sleeping so well.  I feel revitalised, more energy and less joint pain!"

"I enjoyed the KCR treatment and felt really good afterwards, but best of all was the increased flexibility in my left hip and it no longer ached.  Fantastic."

"Balanced me, relaxed me and eased the extremely painful trapped nerve in my right shoulder.  All in one treatment!  Plus the added benefit of being treated by Lynne who took the time to understand the pain I was in and put me at ease about what the treatment entailed."
